First things first. What happens if it's raining???
If it's raining, nothing changes.
We will be there and we will provide indoor activities until it is fine enough for everyone to go swimming.
One of the benefits of having your own Clubrooms is the ability to show our Members Surf Life Saving skills no matter what the weather is.
So if the weather makes you hesitant about attending, and you're not sure what to do ... stay home if you want to but be assured of the following:
- there's a kitchen
- a BBQ
- Cups for a hot drink and a hose for a cold one ...
... and our Team will be there every Sunday and we will have some activities planned.

The Assembly: At 10am sharp, every Sunday morning during the Summer, each Junior Surf session begins on the grassed area alongside the PSLSC Clubrooms with the Assembly. While here, any Club Notices are announced and the specific beach location of the training session is described. At this point in time, it is expected that all participants are wearing the correct PSLSC uniform of Club Beanie, regulation blue swimming togs and the optional yellow Club shirt / rash shirt. The only exception to the uniform is when the weather is less than ideal at which point, the kids can wear a wetsuit otherwise no other clothing items are allowed during the session. At 10:15am, everyone is sent to their respective Age Group assembly points where any further information is relayed to the group by their Coaching Team. From here, each Age Group makes their way down to the beach to begin their session. The Warm-up: As with any sport, the Coaches then put their groups through a series of warm-ups including a light jog - either down the beach or in the dunes, stretching and some "loosener" games. The session objectives are usually explained to both the participants and Parents at this time.

The Session: Usually lasting up to 90 minutes - depending on weather and water conditions - the session is planned to allow training in the various aspects of Surf Life Saving. Each session will include some form of sprint training, Beach Flags, Wading / Swimming and Board work. It may not be the same exercises each week but all sessions are designed to provide a smooth transition for all participants through to eventual involvement in beach competitions (Surf Carnivals). The Age Group is divided by levels of confidence / competency and training is delivered specifically to the targetted group. What this allows is those with more confidence to be trained to their level of competency while ensuring those not yet at that level, still receive sufficient training to allow them to improve over the season. In general, land based events begin a session (Sprints, Beach Flags, Relays) and water based events complete it (Body Surfing, Boarding - Boogie / Knee, Wading and Swimming relays and races). Warm down exercises are incorporated in to this final phase.

Reinforcing Water Safety: Particularly with the 5s - 7s but throughout the whole Junior Surf program, there remains an emphasis on water safety, reminding participants of their need to respect the Water and the basics of "Swimming between the Flags", "Swimming only when accompanied by a responsible Adult" and "Raising one hand straight up if you are in trouble in the water". PSLSC constantly reminds everyone that the Junior Surf session IS NOT a Swimming Club, nor is it a child minding service. The Ocean is not an ideal environment for learning how to swim and the Coaches are not employed to either teach those skills or to babysit. Their responsibility is to reinforce water safety for each individual, encourage all participants to be actively involved in a safe and welcoming environment and to create tomorrows Lifeguards. These ideals are alluded to at the completion of each session and the day itself concludes with a fundraising sausage sizzle back at the Assembly area. If you are considering enrolling your Child in the Junior Surf programme, please contact PSLSC for further details.
