Guests were entertained by ‘Roy Orbison’ during the early part of the evening (you may have seen him on ‘Stars in their Eyes’) before dining and then bidding on all the fabulous items up for grabs in both the major and the silent auctions. Sir Colin Meads enthralled everyone with wonderful anecdotes of his amazing life and rugby stars Dion Muir and Matua Parkinson added some star flavour. Air New Zealand Holidays Store (the Gold Sponsor) had everyone throwing paper darts around and Kokomo Balloons’ balloon art decorations helped keep everyone in a festive mood. A highlight item was a signed rugby ball donated by Sir Colin Meads paired with a framed Chiefs shirt signed by the entire team and a signed copy of Keith Quinn’s new autobiography – ‘The A – Z of Meads’. We were honoured to be the first place to see this newly published book and they have only just become available to the public now. We had 60 copies all signed by Sir Colin available on the night with $10 from each book coming to the club. If anyone would like one of these we have 17 left for sale (info below) – first in first served.
